After an off-season of hype and hope, it would be difficult to script a more frustrating opening win for Wake Forest. Despite beating Tulane, the question of whether the Deacons have improved in Dave Clawson’s third year was left unanswered following the 7-3 victory.
The Deacons are clearly deeper, as they relied on multiple players at most positions and survived injuries, including two on the defensive line. They’re also going to be pretty strong defensively. Wake Forest pressured the quarterback and held Tulane to only a few big plays.
But it’s the offense that remains a question mark, just like it has been since the 2011 season.
