Anya officially returning to NC State

BeeJay Anya has confirmed he will return to the NC State men’s basketball team for his senior season, giving the Pack even more frontcourt depth for the 2016-17 season after a recent slew of activity.

Last season, Anya played in all 33 games for the Pack, making 17 starts and averaging 4.7 points per game. He broke the school record in blocks with 73 and finished second in the ACC and 34th in the nation with 2.21 blocks per game. Anya was the team’s second-leading rebounder, averaging 5.3 boards per game.

The Washington, D.C., native has played in 102 games for the Wolfpack during his career and was a member of the 2014-15 squad, which made a run to the Sweet 16. He was also named the 2015 ACC Sixth Man of the Year by the media.

Anya’a announcement comes after Abdul-Malik Abu confirmed his return. NC State’s frontcourt will now feature Anya, Abu, 5-star center Omer Yurtseven and new signee Darius Hicks.

Anya previously entered his name in the NBA draft to receive an evaluation — a new process that extended the date for college players to decide to return to school.
