ACC Daily Digest, Jan. 24: Thursday night hoops, a Markell Johnson update, Duke looks to land transfer QB

In today’s ACC Daily Digest, we take a look at a small — albeit excellent — menu of Thursday night basketball, a Markell Johnson update, plus a few ACC football notes and rumors.

Two good Thursday night games

Miami at Syracuse, 8 p.m.

No. 21 NC State at No. 23 Louisville, 8 p.m.

Markell Johnson

As NC State gets ready to play Louisville, the Pack may again be without go-go point guard Markell Johnson. There’s no official word yet on Johnson’s status, although he seems doubtful to play. Johnson came down hard on his back in the first half of NC State’s home win over Pitt. He’s missed two games now — with the Wolfpack going 1-1.

Boston College, Kansas change dates

Originally scheduled to play on Saturday Sept. 14, Boston College and Kansas football will play play on Sept. 13 — a Friday night, obviously.

Duke in the running for Texas A&M QB?

Former 3-star star recruit Nick Starkel will transfer out from Texas A&M. The sophomore quarterback is considering a handful of schools as a possible landing spot, including Duke — along with SMU, Arizona and Ohio State.

Starkel completed 15-of-22 passes this season for 169 yards and a touchdown, in a reserve role. As a freshman in 2017, he was 123-of-205 for 1,793 yards and 14 touchdowns — under Kevin Sumlin, who is now at Arizona.
