Athletic Director Ron Wellman announced Thursday that Wake Forest will sell alcohol — beer and wine — at football and basketball games starting with the 2016-17 seasons.
This won’t be the first time alcohol will be sold at Wake Forest games; for the last two seasons, beer and wine have been distributed at home football games. According to Wellman, the success of the Top Hat Tavern during the 2014 and 2015 seasons was one of the mains reasons they made this decision.
According to the school, there will be increased security, and a wright band designated for the purchase of alcohol. The company that handles concession sales at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum and BB&T Field — Spectra Food Services — will also take care of alcohol sales.
The Old Gold and Black will also become the first Division I program in the state of North Carolina to implement stadium-wide beer sales at football games.
The school will reportedly look into selling alcohol at baseball and soccer games, too.
