The AP has released its first top 25 poll of the college basketball season. Kansas claimed the No. 1 overall spot in the poll, but seven ACC teams — the most of any conference — land in the top 25, including two top-five teams: Duke and Virginia.

- No. 8 North Carolina
- No. 15 Virginia Tech
- No. 16 Syracuse
- No. 17 Florida State
- No. 22 Clemson

With Duke, Virginia and UNC, the ACC composes 30 percent of the preseason top 10; additionally, the ACC has four top-15 teams and six top-20 teams.
Several other ACC squads also received votes in the poll: Notre Dame (22), Louisville (11), Miami (10) and NC State (1).
