Officiating within the ACC was a hot topic of conversation coming out of the weekend, and much of the buzz came as a result of one officiating crew being handed a two-game suspension from the league for a series of errors that occurred on the final play of Miami’s win over Duke. Now, another ACC coach is voicing frustrations over the officiating from a separate game.
Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson told reporters Wednesday that he received an apology from the ACC after officials from the Yellow Jackets’ game at Virginia missed what should have been a pass-interference call on the Cavaliers on a third-down play in the fourth quarter. Tech turned it over on downs the next play and ultimately lost the game, 27-21.
Via the AJC, “…when there is a slim margin of error and there are some that are just blatant that really changes the outcome of the game, it’s just hard.”
Johnson acknowledged the Duke-Miami game and said that an apology from the conference carries little weight.
“Maybe if that (suspension) happens, maybe you don’t miss as many,” Johnson told the AJC. “I don’t know, but three weeks from now, nobody will remember that we didn’t get a pass-interference call. They just remember you lost. That’s what makes it tough.”
