For the second recruiting cycle in a row, Clemson has landed one of the top defensive tackles in the country.
In a ceremony at Wake Forest High School in North Carolina on Monday, 5-star defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence announced his commitment to Clemson. His decision comes less than a year after now-freshman Christian Wilkins — one of the top D-tackles in the 2015 class — picked the Tigers.
Rated the No. 3 overall senior in the country on the 247Sports Composite, Lawrence held offers from programs all over the country. His other finalists included NC State, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, USC and Ohio State.
Lawrence’s commitment is just the latest example of the success Dabo Swinney’s staff has had on the recruiting trail in recent years. The Tigers’ 2015 signing class was ranked No. 8 in the country by 247Sports, and although Clemson is taking a smaller class this cycle, the program remains in position to reel in a top-15 class in February.
