NOTES:
* Miami got back the ranking spot it lost last week, thanks to Michigan nearly losing at lowly UConn on Saturday. Other than that, there was almost no movement in the polls, thanks to a slate full of forgettable games. Clemson stayed at No. 3 and FSU remained at No. 8.
* The movement that did occur was mostly at the bottom of the polls and in the “Others Recieving Votes” category. Georgia Tech climbed up to the second spot in that grouping – e.g. No. 27 nationally – after beating UNC to get to 4-0.
* And remember how last week I pointed out that unbeaten Maryland was completely ignored by the voters? Apparently some of them took notice after the Terps beat down West Virginia, 37-0. Maryland now has 24 votes and sits one spot behind Georgia Tech, in the No. 28 spot.
* So if you still feel like including Maryland, then the ACC has five of the top 28 teams in the country. If you don’t think that should be allowed, because the Terps are ACC short-timers, well then you’d have to be okay with including future ACCer Louisville. Personally, I’m all about going with the current rosters for each league. We’ll deal with 2014 when it comes.
* Somehow Virginia Tech, which needed overtime – and a bit of luck as well – at to beat Marshall at home, got four votes. I assume that’s a function of the Hokies’ reputation and their 3-1 record – with the lone loss to might Alabama. Right now, Frank Beamer’s bunch doesn’t look like a Top 25 squad.
