No, that is not the U.S. Capitol in an ad for the ACC Tournament

After a three-year stop in Greensboro, the ACC Tournament will be played at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., next month, marking the first time since 2005 that the nation’s capital will host the event.

Ads for the tournament can already be found in the D.C. Metro, which certainly isn’t anything out of the ordinary. What is out of the ordinary, though, is that at least one of the ads features an image that looks like the U.S. Capitol building — but it isn’t actually the U.S. Capitol.

One observer recently shared the photo on Twitter:

To be fair, the mistake is difficult to notice at first glance. But wouldn’t it have been easier to just go with, say, the Washington Monument?

As for the actual building displayed in the ad, Dan Steinberg of The Washington Post made note of some European buildings that inspired the architecture of the U.S. Capitol. However, there’s no reason to be concerned; the ACC Tournament is moving to Brooklyn in 2017 and 2018, but it is not scheduled to leave the country.
