Miami football recruiting: 3 things to watch before Signing Day

Al Golden wasn’t a bad recruiter, despite his reputation among Miami fans. He signed three top-15-quality classes while at Miami, including high-round NFL draft picks Duke Johnson, Denzel Perryman, Phillip Dorsett, Ereck Flowers, Artie Burns and David Njoku.

Mediocre coach, yes, but strong recruiter.

Mark Richt is better at both, and he’s about to prove it.

Richt has been hovering around the top-15 level, but a strong close to his first full recruiting class could vault the Hurricanes into the top 10 national rankings for the first time since Golden’s second-year class of 2012, which included 5-stars Johnson and Tracy Howard, and Randy Shannon’s ballyhooed 2008 class, which was No. 2.
