Can Miami capitalize on pivotal recruiting weekend?

Miami is putting the full-court press on Jeff Thomas. Will the speedy Illinois wide receiver push aside his hometown Illini, Louisville and Oregon and sign with the Hurricanes?

UM feels good about its chances and will get the opportunity of hosting the 4-star prospect and Under Armour All-America Game MVP this weekend in Coral Gables.

He’s not the only top prospect on the way down, but given Miami’s need at wideout, he is the most important.

Thomas, 5-10 and 165 pounds, is Rivals.com’s No. 8 wide receiver in the nation. He has the type of deep speed Miami covets — a quality the Hurricanes are in desperate need of with the graduation of Stacy Coley. Thomas would be an immediate candidate to play. A lot.

If he continues to produce like he did at the Under Armour Game — 148 yards and two touchdowns, setting a record for yards in the event — he’ll look good doing so next to Ahmmon Richards at Hard Rock Stadium.
