ACC target lands at No. 2 in 2017 small forward rankings

Small forwards constitute a solid crop in the 2017 class, featuring the nation’s No. 1 prospect, Michael Porter Jr., and five more McDonald’s All Americans.

Porter established himself firmly this past spring and summer. His performances at various events were consistently outstanding, especially when compared with the play of others contending for the top-player-in-the-class label.

We particularly are referring to center DeAndre Ayton of California, center Mohamed Bamba of Pennsylvania and combo guard Trevon Duval of Florida. Each intermingled excellent play with just average showings.

Returning to the small forwards in the 2017 class, Kevin Knox has had several superb performances during the current high school season and consequently rises into the second slot, followed by Brian Bowen, Troy Brown Jr. and Charles O’Bannon Jr.

Interestingly, of the top 26 small forward prospects in the class, only one (Notre Dame-bound D.J. Harvey Jr.) signed in November with an ACC school, although Knox hasn’t made a college decision and presently has Duke, North Carolina and Florida State among his four finalists (along with Kentucky).
