The ACC recently tabled its discussion on the possibility of moving to a nine-game football schedule, a conversation that heated up after plans for the league’s new channel were announced last month.
In this case, the new ACC Network, powered by ESPN, is looking to add extensively to its inventory of available ACC men’s basketball and football games. Just weeks ago, the conference finalized plans for a new 20-game ACC men’s basketball schedule as part of the ACC Network negotiations; that format will be put in place starting with the 2019-20 season.
Now the question is when — or if — the league will eventually go to a nine-game football slate.
