The Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Brooklyn Nets 105-90 on Thursday, largely thanks to superstar guard Anthony Edwards. The 23-year-old notched 28 points (10-15 FG, 5-10 3 PT) with five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 32 minutes.
Edwards has now scored at least 20 points in four straight games and 12 of his last 16. Thursday’s win temporarily tied with the Timberwolves (45-32) with the Memphis Grizzlies and Golden State Warriors for fifth in the Western Conference, as the latter team plays the Los Angeles Lakers.
Edwards’ name is now in the NBA record books after the Nets (25-52) game.
The three-time All-Star is now the youngest shooting guard in league history to score 2,000-plus points in back-to-back seasons (via StatMamba).
He scored 2,049 points last year and has 2,019 and counting this year.
Minnesota drafted Edwards No. 1 overall out of Georgia in 2020. The former SEC Rookie of the Year made the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2021, averaging 19.3 points on 41.7 percent shooting (32.9 percent 3 PT) with 4.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists.
This season, Edwards ranks fourth in the league with 27.3 points per game on 44.4 percent shooting (39.5 percent 3 PT). The former McDonald’s All-American led the Timberwolves to its second-ever conference finals appearance in 2024 after upsetting the Denver Nuggets in the second round.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn has five games left before its offseason begins. First, it’ll host the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday, and the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday before rematching Minnesota on the road. Then, it’ll host the New York Knicks to end the slate.
