Notes:
* Not too surprised that Florida State didn’t move up, even after the Seminoles’ won and No. 6 LSU lost. The Noles gave up 34 points in Chestnut Hill and continued their trend of slow starts. Meanwhile, Georgia picked up its second win against a Top 10 team (at the time of the game). So no surprise the Bulldogs leapfrogged FSU.
* Also, man that win over Georgia looks better and better for Clemson doesn’t it? Maybe that’s why the Tigers’ gap over No. 4 Ohio State widened from 20 to 49 points, even though the Buckeyes beat a tough Wisconsin team on Saturday.
* Miami moved up from No. 15 to No. 14 thanks to then-No. 11 Oklahoma State’s loss to West Virginia. The Canes did what ranked teams do, completely mauling an overmatched USF team.
* So that West Virginia team that Maryland totally embarrassed last Saturday then turned around and knocked off the Cowboys? Small wonder the Terrapins finally broke into the AP Top 25, even though they were on a bye week. I kind of thought the Terps would rise higher than No. 25, but sadly, they don’t consult me on this.
* I also thought the Hokies might sneak into the poll after winning on the road at Georgia Tech. That’s four straight wins since losing to Alabama in the opener. I guess the voters liked Ole Miss and its 25-point loss to the Crimson Tide better than the Hokies and their 25-point loss to the Crimson Tide. But I’m not going to kick and scream on this one, as Virginia Tech’s wins have not been aesthetically pleasing. I get it.
