Long-time college basketball official Bryan Kersey dropped by The David Glenn Show on Wednesday to talk about his new position as the ACC’s Coordinator of Men’s Basketball Officiating. The veteran referee talked about how often officials make the correct call, why he believes officials should remain independent contractors and the only time he got injured on the job.
During the interview, Kersey also shared valuable advice passed down to him by his father, who was an NBA official.
One thing I always learned from him was communication. On and off the floor, especially on the floor as an official, we have to learn how to communicate. We have great communicating coaches. Some of our officials that we have now communicate better than others. I think we have to bring that to a different level. He always said, “Never think you’re better than you are, and always try to get better.”
