ACC moving to 20-game league schedule for men’s basketball in 2019

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The ACC officially announced on Thursday that it will launch a linear channel for the ACC Network by August 2019, and with that came the news that the conference will move to a 20-game league schedule in men’s basketball in 2020.

Over the last four seasons, ACC teams have played 18-game league schedules after moving up from from 16 in 2013.

NC State basketball coach Mark Gottfried is among those who have voiced support behind the idea of expanding the league schedule to 20 games. The current format includes each ACC member playing home-and-homes every year against two traditional rivals, two non-traditional home-and-home series that rotate annually and one game each against the remaining eight conference teams.

The new format aims to lighten the impact of scheduling inequity.
