Arrest Warrant Issued for Antonio Brown in Miami Attempted Murder Case

Former NFL star Antonio Brown is wanted by authorities in Miami-Dade County on a criminal charge of attempted murder, according to an arrest warrant cited by multiple news outlets.

The charge stems from a shooting at a celebrity boxing event in May, according to the warrant, which was reported by The Washington Post and The Associated Press on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The arrest warrant calls for Brown to post a $10,000 bond and remain under house arrest pending trial, according to The Post. The AP reported that the second-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.

The Miami-Dade County sheriff’s office did not respond to a request for comment by The Athletic.

A video taken at the May 17 event, which was hosted by popular streamer Adin Ross, appeared to show Brown in an altercation with several people. After he was separated from the fray, the video appeared to show Brown holding a black pistol as he pursued one of the men.

Police questioned several people at the scene, and Brown was briefly detained, but there were no arrests made at the time, and no injuries were reported, according to The AP. Later that night, Brown wrote in a social media post that he had been jumped “by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He also said he had not been arrested.

Brown posted multiple times on X on Friday, including one in which he wrote, “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger” above a photo of himself posing with boxing gloves on.

This is the latest legal trouble for Brown, 36, a seven-time Pro Bowl receiver who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In 2018, he was sued after he allegedly threw furniture off the 14th-floor balcony of a South Florida apartment, nearly hitting a toddler below. He was also accused of speeding in excess of 100 miles per hour on a suburban Pittsburgh street. He later settled a suit from the furniture-tossing episode and was fined by a judge for the speeding incident.

He played only one game for the Patriots in 2019 following a lawsuit by a former trainer alleging rape and sexual assault. He was also accused of sending threatening messages to the woman. The Patriots released him, and the NFL suspended him for the first eight games of the 2020 season. The Allegheny County district attorney did not pursue the case because the statute of limitations had expired, and the sides later settled a civil case on undisclosed terms.

In June 2020, Brown pleaded no contest to burglary and battery charges stemming from an incident that January with a moving company. He was ordered to serve two years of probation and 100 hours of community service. Brown was also instructed to attend an anger management program and undergo a psychological/psychiatric evaluation.

Brown signed with the Buccaneers ahead of the 2020 season, playing in 15 games across two seasons and winning a Super Bowl following the 2020 regular season. The Buccaneers released Brown in January 2022 after he left his team’s game against the New York Jets, stripping off his jersey and shoulder pads as he walked to the locker room in the third quarter.

Brown was arrested multiple times in 2023 on warrants accusing him of failing to pay child support.

In May 2024, he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, with records showing he owed $3 million to eight creditors.
