Should College Basketball Push Back its Season?

With college basketball starting up right in the middle of football, which takes away a little of the shine on the hardwood, some have pondered whether it might be a good idea to push back the beginning of the season.

As a two-semester sport, running from approximately October to March — or April for top teams — college basketball is one of the longest amateur sports seasons in America.

“I think the college basketball season is a long, long season. I happen to think it’s the longest,” said North Carolina’s Roy Williams.

Would it be possible to push back the start of the season until after fall semester exams in early December, thereby making college basketball a one-semester sport?
