Report: Syracuse freshman injures foot

The 2016-17 college basketball season is more than three months away, but one Syracuse player has already been bitten by the injury bug.

According to CuseNation.com, incoming freshman forward Matthew Moyer injured his right foot. Specifics of the injury are not known, but the rookie reportedly expects to be ready for the start of practice in October.

Moyer is part of a three-man Orange class that ranked No. 17 nationally, per 247Sports’ composite rankings. A native of Columbus, Ohio, he was ranked the No. 67 player in his class by the same service.

As a result of NCAA sanctions, Syracuse will be limited to 11 scholarships for the 2016-17 season. There are nine scholarship players on the current roster. Moyer, who is a 6-8, 210-pound small forward, is expected to back up sophomore Tyler Lydon at small forward. The freshman could also see action at power forward in four-guard lineups.

As a senior at South Kent Prep in Connecticut last year, Moyer averaged 15.6 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
