Report: Abu “seriously considering” not returning to NC State

NC State forward Abdul-Malik Abu may decide to stay in the 2016 NBA Draft. Or he may not.

But even if he doesn’t, he may not be wearing a Wolfpack uniform next season.

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, Abu is “seriously considering transferring or hiring an agent.”

As a sophomore in 2015-16, Abu averaged 12.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game. He was one of three NC State underclassmen to declare for this year’s NBA Draft, joining juniors Cat Barber and BeeJay Anya.

Barber plans to stay in the draft, while Anya told Raleigh’s News & Observer last week that he intends to return to school.

Even if Abu opted to stay with the Pack another year, head coach Mark Gottfried would still have a major void to fill in the frontcourt. This offseason, the coaching staff has pursued multiple transfer options.

According to multiple reports, Abu was not invited to this year’s NBA Combine.
