Mackenzie Mgbako, 5-star SF, narrows his list to 4; Duke projects favorably

Mackenzie Mgbako, a Top 3 prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, is down to four programs. With a decision on the horizon, the 5-star small forward is down to four programs: Duke, Kentucky, Memphis and Ohio State.

Currently, the Blue Devils are the favorites to land Mgbako, too.

Mgbako is a versatile 6-foot-8 forward; he plays his prep basketball for Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernard. According to reports, he’s played rather well this week at the Nike Hoop Summit.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer is the program’s lead recruiter for Mgbako, who took an official visit to Durham last fall.

As of right now, the Blue Devils already have three commitments for 2023, including two 5-star guards: Caleb Foster and Jared McCain. Sean Stewart, a 4-star power forward, completes that trio. However, that could change soon, too.

Tyrese Proctor, a top-flight international talent (2023), will announce his destination on April 7. Proctor will decide between Duke, Arizona and the G-League. Currently, Proctor and Mgbako are teammates on the International roster at the Hoops Summit.

As the program transition beyond Mike Krzyzewski, Duke is well-positioned with both the No. 1 2022 recruiting class and a strong 2023 group in the works.

Update: 4/6

Mackanzie Mgbako will pick his college program Friday, April 8, at 9 p.m.
