ACC Kickoff Day 1: Virginia News and Notes

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Virginia safety Anthony Harris and running back Kevin Parks spoke to the media on Sunday at the 2014 ACC Football Kickoff. Here are some of the topics that were covered:

*When asked how tough of a decision it was to return to school after receiving first-team All-ACC honors in 2013, Harris stated that he values loyalty and felt that coming back was the right decision. He also said that after last year’s 2-10 finish, he would have felt like he was running away if he left for the NFL.
*Harris wouldn’t state a win total that would be needed to make this a successful year, but the safety did say that he expects his team to execute better. He felt that the team struggled to play at a high level for a whole four quarters in games a year ago.
*Harris said that the most clear change on defense has been players’ ability to grow more comfortable in defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta’s system. Rather than just knowing their individual assignments, Harris said, the players now know the assignments of everyone else on defense.
*With Greyson Lambert emerging as the team’s starting quarterback during spring ball, a lot of the talk has been how he will fare under center for the Cavaliers. Parks said that Lambert certainly has the leadership skills needed to get the job done.
